On the 16th of April, nearly 700 people took to the streets of Rio protesting police brutality. This commemorates one year after the murder of four young people in Borel.
The demonstration, which was supported by the MST (Landless Movement) went to Palacio da Guanabara, the HQ of the state government, to demand an audience. Nobody from the government showed up.
This time there was no police repression and mothers whose sons had been murdered made emotionally charged speeches. A theatre group, Black Inheritance, performed a play about the day to day violence suffered by the people and another group of people performed capoeira.
